Zizo (not her real name) is a 7-year-old girl who was raped by her mother’s boyfriend, who is 38 years old. They were all living in the same house. The mother worked and would leave home early and the boyfriend tragically took advantage of Zizo.

 A neighbour thankfully noticed that the child was withdrawn and asked Zizo what happened.  Zizo explained what had happened to her. She was taken to the hospital where the doctor confirmed rape.

The boyfriend was arrested, and he denied raping Zizo. The mother also did not believe her own child so Zizo had to be removed from her own home for her safety.  A foster mother brings the child to Nonceba counselling sessions. She is severely traumatised but is receiving therapeutic counselling which is a long-term measure.
